William Compton, Sr. is a minor character on the HBO original series True Blood. Played by American co-starring actor Michael Rothhaar, William is the father of vampire Bill Compton and appears only on the episode "May Be the Last Time" in the series' seventh, and final, season.
Biography[]
Background[]
William Compton, Sr. was a prominent member of Bon Temps, Louisiana. At some point prior to 1835, he married Margaret Lattermilk and had at least one child, William Thomas Compton.
According to Bill, William Sr. had been a planter and a slave owner, having owned at least two slaves: a young field hand named Minus, and a middle-aged woman. ("The First Taste")
Season 7[]
"May Be the Last Time"[]
He appears in Season 7 during a dream flashback. He is seen having an argument with his son about marriage. Young William wants to marry for love, but William Sr. is ill and dying, and tells him that there's no time for that. In order to ensure the financial security of his wife Margaret after he dies, young William must marry the daughter of their new rich neighbors, Caroline Shelby. Young William protests, as he has never even seen her. William Sr. has, and assures his son that Caroline is "comely." Young William believes this to be a euphemism for plain and dowdy. ("May Be the Last Time")
