Mae Hellerman, also known as Grandma Mae, was a powerful witch, or conjurer, on the HBO original series True Blood. The great-grandmother of Lettie Mae Daniels and the great-great grandmother of Lafayette Reynolds and Tara Thornton, Mae meets an untimely demise during her only appearance, on the episode "I Smell a Rat" in the series' third season.
Biography[]
Background[]
During the times of slavery, Mae would mix together medicine and herbs around her bed to ensure that she would never have to share a bed with her master, a ritual she shared with her daughter, Winnie.
Season 3[]
"I Smell a Rat"[]
Jesus called Mae a conjurer, so she most likely practiced a form of Hoodoo (also called Rootwork) an African-American folk magick tradition. ("I Smell a Rat")
