Joe Thornton is a minor character on the HBO original series True Blood. Played by actor Malcolm Goodwin, he is the controlling and physically abusive ex-husband of Lettie Mae Daniels and father of Tara Thornton.
Personality[]
Little is known about Joe Thornton. He was never seen nor mentioned throughout the duration of the show until making his one and only appearance in the Season 7 episode "Almost Home," in which he appears in Tara's V-fueled childhood memory. He is shown to be the root cause of Lettie Mae's decades of alcoholism. He was controlling and physically abusive toward Lettie Mae, and feared and despised by his young daughter. He abandoned his family on Tara's 7th birthday, after coming home to discover that her birthday party had been thrown and paid for without his knowledge. He disrupts the party by accusing Lettie Mae of spending his money to pay for the gifts, cake and decorations. He violently beats his wife after he accuses her of stealing his gun. Unbeknownst to both Joe and Lettie Mae, little Tara has hidden his gun, and retrieves it during the altercation. She almost shoots her father, but changes her mind and buries the gun in the front yard. Minutes later, Joe storms out of the house and out of their lives forever.
